Based on the tragedy Antigone by Sophocles. Eteocles and Polyneices, sons of Oedipus, engage in single combat to decide who shall reign in Thebes and both are slain. By command of Creon the body of Polyneices is to be left unburied. His sister, Antigone, pleads with Emone, Creon's son and her betrothed, to be allowed to bury the body, but he has to refuse. Argy, Polyneices' wife joins Antigone in cremating the body. They are arrested and brought before Creon, who exiles Argy and sends Antigone to prison. Emone goes to see her but although she loves him deeply, she refuses to marry him, even though Creon offers her her freedom if she 33 so. She is condemned to death and led to the place of execution where she takes her own life. Emone, rushing to the rescue with a great following, passionately upbraids his father and expires on Antigone's body. Note: Contains Italian flash titles taken from the original positive.
