Synopsis
Christian martyrs in the Roman arena. A lion trainer rounds up one of his animals, which is obedient to his orders, and rolls over to be stroked. Attendants clearing the debris of a chariot crash, raking the track, and removing the body of the driver. A procession of trumpeters and soldiers escort in two senators, followed by two Christians. The Christians kneel to salute the royal box, then suffer themselves to be bound to the cross- trees. Lions enter the arena, and tear at the victims. The lions are ushered out with dripping hunks of flesh in their jaws. (Shotlist)
