Synopsis

The death of Socrates. The judges condemn Socrates to drink hemlock. In his prison cell, Socrates is surrounded by his weeping family. The judges enter and deliver their verdict. The chains are removed from his wrists. Young scholars enter to receive final instruction from Socrates. He then drinks the cup of poison and falls wrapped in his cloak. He recovers to write out a final instruction, then dies. His scholars mourn (432ft). (Shotlist)
