Synopsis

Ancient Rome. Roman princess is jealous of general's love for captured slave girl. Roman general Vitellius returns after conquering the Dacians, leading, in front of the Imperial lodge, a triumphal march with the captured Dacians as slaves. He is passionately admired by the Roman Imperial princess Fausta, who observes him jealously as he meets with Aida, a slave girl with whom he is in love. Fausta summons Vitellius to her room and declares her love, which he rejects. Discovering the loving couple in a garden, she swears revenge. She denounces them both to Caesar, who forces the Senate to have both the general and the slave girl thrown into the cells. Vitellius chisels through the wall of his cell and pulls his beloved through to join him. Wrapped in a cloak, Fausta visits his cell to declare her love once more. They overpower her and escape, the slave girl wrapped in the princess' cloak. They reach a ferry boat and cast off from the banks of the river. Fausta is discovered, tied up in the cells. She leads the Roman guard in pursuit, but they arrive at the river to find the lovers already in midstream (809ft). Note: Possibly incomplete. Original length 919ft. Archive copy 809ft. (Shotlist)
