Synopsis
Prasutagas, King of the Iceni, lies ill. One of his tribe, Caradoc, has his grain seized by Roman soldiers and his son Madoc is taken by them to the slave market when he tries to interfere. Emmelyn, the King's daughter is in love with Marcus, a Roman soldier. Caradoc arrives and tells Prasutagas what has occurred. Boadicea swears that she will not rest until her people are free. The Romans stop a Druid ceremony. Badwallon, a priest escapes back to the Iceni, arriving as the King dies. Boadicea assumes leadership of the tribe. Badwallon calls the tribe together in a glade to incite them to revolt. Marcus comes to the glade to meet Emmelyn. He is caught and is about to be killed as a spy, when Emmelyn confesses their love and his life is spared. Decianus, the Roman Governor, receives a message from Rome asking for extra tithes to be collected, simultaneously he receives the news of Prasutagas's death. He decides to collect the tithes from Boadicea. Roman soldiers are sent to collect the dead King's treasure. Boadicea objects and strikes the Commander, who orders her to be flogged and the treasure taken. Boadicea and her people vow vengeance on the Romans. Revolt spreads while the Governor entertains the envoy from Rome. The Britons attack the city and after a long fight defeat the Romans. Marcus goes for help, with Madoc in pursuit to prevent him. He catches Marcus and they fight, but Marcus overcomes Madoc. He gets help and the Romans wait for the Britons in a valley. Boadicea decides to attack but her people are defeated. The Queen rides away from the battlefield and, with her daughters, drink poison. Marcus arrives and Emmelyn dies in his arms.
